The real world political situation is insane and corrupt. Is Second Life any better?

I like intelligent conversation and connection.

In SL we get to meet people regardless of race, nationality, looks, weight, age, and gender. We get to know their hearts, minds, and souls without distracting factors.

I don't do RP. I have a hard enough time being myself.

My top five pet peeves about SL:

1. Sims that don't allow us to fly.; Fascist and cruel! This is SL! Besides, griefers can override the fly ban via viewer settings. I generally refuse to explore and frequent such sims.

2. Clubs and other venues that send out a notification that lacks an surl link you can click that TPs you directly to the venue. Either you have to download some object and Add or open it; or it's a LM, not a surl; or the surl they send doesn't actually send you to the venue; instead the surl sends you to a different place, and you have to search for how to find the venue.

3. People who IM me as if they want to chat but then are actually busy doing other things. In general, multi-tasking and distraction are the bane of SL existence.

4. Greeters at clubs. For many clubs, as soon as I arrive, someone greets me and pretends they're glad to see me and that they know me. Come on! It's insincere: they're working for the venue. I wish they'd stop doing that. I dislike visiting such clubs because of the annoying fake greetings.

5. When people at clubs write verbose automated APPLAUSE messages, often with special characters, that take up many lines and hog the screen.

SL friendships rarely last. If they're romantic, someone wants freedom. If they're not romantic, there's little energy to sustain the friendship.

Many women in SL have bodies and outfits that scream YES (to men's brains), but their profiles and chats say NO! That confuses guys.

I'm more like myself in SL than in RL. I'm freer to be my REAL self here.

Studies show that about 60% of couples now meet online.

The presence in SL of many gender-pretending men (men in RL who pretend to be female in SL) makes it harder for REAL women to find REAL men and for REAL men to find REAL women. My attitude here is generally tolerant: whatever floats your boat. But gender pretending does seem kindof deceptive. On the other hand, naive people need to learn a lesson. :(

SL is a lesson in impermanence, illusion, and the dangers of attachment.

People enjoy dancing, cuddling and sex in SL. But I don't think many people enjoy EATING food here. Why is that? You can watch your avatar dance, cuddle, fuck, or eat. You can IMAGINE that you're dancing, cuddling, fucking, or eating. So what's the difference?

Eternal unconditional, devoted love only. Mere friendship is not sufficient.
